What happens during a temperament assessment?
We want to make sure that each dog is comfortable and not anxious or aggressive while staying at The Dog Society. Each assessment takes approximately 4 hours. During this time under a Pack Leader’s supervision, we will be assessing your dog and their confidence doing the following activities:
- Pack Leader Handling: This period allows us to see if your dog is comfortable with staff touching them, taking on and off a leash, and moving from one location to another.
- Solo Kennel Time: This helps us better understand if your dog would be comfortable boarding with us. It also allows them time to acclimate to their new surroundings.
- One on One Play: Your dog will be introduced to another ‘resident’ dog, first on-leash and then off, to get a better understanding of their temperament.
- Pack Play: Your pup will be introduced to the full pack. Under our supervision we will be monitoring their play and recall skill sot ensure they are a good fit for the pack.
